What Happens Before Your Pet’s Dental?
Before we consider your pet's dental, we must perform a Pre-Dental Health Check.
We believe in human-quality care for your pet, and that means safety, thorough diagnostics, and complete transparency.
Step 1: Pre-Anesthetic Evaluation
Before scheduling a dental, your pet receives a full diagnostic workup to ensure they are safe for anesthesia:
• Dental Grade Assessment
• Comprehensive physical exam
• Pre-anesthetic bloodwork
• Radiographs/X-Rays (when recommended)
What Happens During Your Pet’s Dental?
We make the process safe, thorough, and stress-free. Only pets cleared as healthy candidates move forward with the procedure.
Step 1: Outpatient Dental Procedure
On the day of treatment, your pet is admitted for their outpatient procedure.
All dentals are performed under full general anesthesia. Just like in human dentistry, we do a thorough cleaning. Pets are under anesthesia to be sure we can clean thoroughly and safely beneath the gumline.
Your pet is monitored the entire time with:
• Advanced monitoring equipment
• A dedicated nurse
• A doctor overseeing anesthesia and treatment

Step 2: Full-Mouth Dental X-Rays
We begin every dental visit with full-mouth X-rays (radiographs).
Why this matters:
What’s happening below the gumline often tells a completely different story than what you see on the surface.
Dental X-rays allow us to detect problems early—before they become painful or severe, including:
- Bone loss that can lead to loose teeth or jaw damage
- Tooth root issues not visible during an exam
- Hidden infections or abscesses
- Fractures beneath the gumline
Without X-rays, up to 60% of dental disease can go undetected

Catching these issues early allows us to treat problems proactively, often preventing extractions, pain, and more advanced procedures.
Step 3: Professional Cleaning & Periodontal Evaluation
After radiographs:
• Teeth are scaled above and below the gumline
• A periodontal probe measures the gingival sulcus and pocket depth
• We evaluate periodontal support in millimeters
If diseased or non-viable teeth are found, extractions may be necessary to eliminate pain and infection.
Step 4: Polish & Protect
We finish every dental with:
• Professional polishing
• Fluoride treatment
This smooths the enamel and helps slow future plaque buildup.
